1. Introduction
Wright Tax Services Inc. ("Wright Tax," "we," "us") provides tax, accounting, and bookkeeping services to individuals and businesses in Canada. This policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information, including when you agree to receive text messages from us.
We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and other applicable privacy laws. By using our website or services, or by opting in to text messages, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to serve you:
- Contact details: name, email address, phone and mobile number, and mailing address.
- Tax and financial information: Social Insurance Number, date of birth, tax slips, receipts, and the financial records you provide for your returns.
- Family details: spouse or common-law partner and dependant information your return requires.
- Business information: for business clients, financial statements, payroll records, and shareholder details.
- Communications: emails, text messages, call notes, and the booking, contact, and intake forms you submit.
- Information from others: a referral partner who sends your file to us, and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) when you authorize us to access your tax records.
- Website data: how you found our site (referral source) and basic usage data, used for internal analytics.
3. Text Messaging (SMS)
When you opt in, Wright Tax Services Inc. sends you text messages such as replies to your inquiries, appointment reminders, tax-season deadline reminders, and service updates.
Consent
You opt in by checking the SMS consent box on one of our forms, or by texting us first. By opting in, you consent to receive recurring and one-time text messages from Wright Tax Services Inc. at the number you provide. Consent is optional and is not a condition of using our services.
No Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile number or other personal information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, except the providers that deliver our text messages.
Frequency
Message frequency varies with your file and the time of year.
Opt Out — Reply STOP
Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts. We will send one confirmation and no further messages unless you opt in again.

4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Respond to your inquiries and book appointments.
- Prepare and file your tax returns and related forms.
- Represent you with the CRA when you authorize us.
- Provide the accounting, bookkeeping, and advisory services you engage us for.
- Send appointment reminders, deadline reminders, and service updates by text or email.
- Bill for our services.
- Improve our website and client experience.
- Meet our legal, regulatory, and professional obligations.
We do not use your information for any other purpose without your consent, unless the law requires or permits it.
5. How We Share Your Information
We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their marketing purposes. We share it only in these cases:
- Government: the CRA and other government bodies, when we file your returns, when you authorize us to represent you, or when the law requires it.
- Service providers: companies that help us run the practice, such as our tax software, cloud storage, email, payment, and phone and text messaging providers. They may use your information only to provide services to us, and must protect it.
- Referral partners: the partner firm that referred your file to us, limited to what is needed to coordinate and bill the work.
- People you authorize: anyone you ask us to deal with, such as a spouse, bookkeeper, lawyer, or financial advisor.
- Business transfer: if the practice is sold or merged, the buyer, who must protect your information under this policy.
- Legal requirements: when a law, court order, or regulator requires it.
All of these categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent. We do not share that information with any third parties, except the providers that deliver our text messages.
6. Storage and Security
We protect your information with administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, including restricted access, strong passwords, and encryption where available. Only people who need your information to serve you can see it.
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. While there, it is subject to that country's laws and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement, and national security authorities.
7. How Long We Keep It
We keep client files while we serve you, and for at least six years after the related return is filed. That matches the CRA's rule that signed electronic filing authorizations, such as Form T183, be kept for at least six years after filing. We then securely destroy or delete them.
If you opt out of texts, we keep a record of your opt-out so we don't text you again.
8. Your Rights and Choices
You can:
- Ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and how we have used or shared it.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Withdraw your consent, subject to legal or contractual limits. We may then be unable to continue some services.
- Ask us to delete information we are not required by law to keep.
- Opt out of texts at any time by replying STOP.

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it.
