Tax Guide/CRA notices

CRA review letters

Updated November 4, 2026

The CRA regularly asks people to prove claims on their return. Being selected for a review does not mean you did something wrong, and it is not the same as an audit.

Common targets include medical expenses, tuition, moving costs, child care and home office claims.

How to respond

  1. Check the reference number and deadline in the letter.
  2. Send clear copies of what was requested, ideally through My Account.
  3. Explain anything that is not obvious.
  4. Keep copies and proof you sent them.

If you need more time, ask before the deadline. Wright Tax clients can send us the letter, and we can respond if authorized.
