Tax Guide/Filing and paying
How to file your tax return
Updated November 4, 2026
Ways to file
- Through a professional: using EFILE.
- With certified software: using NETFILE. Auto-fill my return can bring in many of your slips.
- On paper: by mail, which takes longer.
Before you start
- Slips from employers, banks, brokers and pension plans
- Receipts for deductions and credits
- Your last Notice of Assessment
- RRSP and FHSA contribution slips
- Rental and business records
- Dates for any move or status change
Slips can arrive at different times, so check My Account in March before filing. If a slip is missing, you must still report the income and file by the deadline.
