The golden rule for CRA letters

Updated November 4, 2026

Do not ignore a CRA letter, even if you think it is wrong. Most issues are easier to fix before a deadline passes.

A simple process

  1. Confirm it is real in My Account.
  2. Note the deadline and reference number.
  3. Work out what the CRA wants and why.
  4. Reply with copies, and keep the originals.
  5. Ask for help if the amount is large or you are unsure.

If you are a Wright Tax client, send the letter through the portal.
