Payroll and year-end slips
Updated November 4, 2026
If you pay salary, you need a CRA payroll account. You withhold income tax, CPP and EI, then add the employer share and remit it.
Annual filing
| Slip | Reports | 2026 slips due |
|---|---|---|
| T4 | Salary, wages and benefits | March 1, 2027 |
| T5 | Dividends and interest | March 1, 2027 |
Be careful
- Remittance dates depend on your payroll size. Many small employers remit monthly by the 15th.
- Late remittances are penalized.
- Directors can be personally liable for unpaid source deductions and GST/HST.
An employee or contractor label does not settle a person's status. The real working relationship decides.
