Tax instalments
Updated November 4, 2026
You may have to pay instalments if your net tax owing is more than $3,000 in the current year and in either of the two previous years. The Quebec threshold is $1,800.
This often affects self-employed people, landlords, investors and retirees with little tax withheld.
| Due dates | |

| March 15, June 15 | September 15, December 15 |
Choose a method
- No-calculation: pay the amounts on CRA reminders.
- Prior-year: based on last year's net tax owing.
- Current-year: based on your own estimate, which carries more risk if you estimate too low.
Pay as the CRA's reminder says and you will not be charged instalment interest, even if you end up owing more.
