Tax records to keep
Updated November 4, 2026
Keep your records for at least six years from the end of the tax year they relate to. This includes supporting documents for returns you have filed.
What to keep
- Income slips and invoices
- Receipts for claimed expenses, donations and medical costs
- Vehicle logbooks and home office calculations
- Bank and credit card statements
- Records of asset purchases and sales
Records for property, such as your purchase documents, should stay as long as you own it plus six years. Digital copies are generally acceptable if they are clear and backed up.
